This is really a bad idea that will get lots of good guys and police killed. There are numerous errors in the logic behind this idea
1) The device will not prevent a stolen gun from being used, either by removing the device or by re-programming
2) Even the best readers have a failure rate that is far too high to trust your life on, how many times do you have to re-scan your finger for your notebook
3) Anything that would depend on a battery is not good, guns that are carried get a lot of harsh treatement that will affect battery life. Even when people put lights and lasers on guns, they always attach them in ways that if they fail the normal iron sights are still functional.
4) One more thing to remember in a emergency event. Many people object to haveing an external safety, this would be far worse.
5) When things go wrong they can go very wrong, like blood on your hands, or even having to use alternate grip.
If people would put half of the expense of this device in extra training they would be better served.
