The Week in Videos at ‘the gun wire.’ February 12 – 19, 2012.

February 20, 2012

Okay, I’ve got a new weekly column for the readers here at ‘the gun wire.’  Basically, it will just be a recap of the week in videos with perhaps a little commentary.  Installments of this column will be on Monday each week.  Today, I’ll only cover videos we posted this week.  In future editions, I’ll also post videos that I didn’t like, I thought were in bad taste, or where there exists gross negligence in gun handling – that’s real common on videos that people upload.

Here’s what we had between February 12 and February 19…

Gunfighter’s Guide to Ballistics  – This was a very interesting video.  Very detailed information for those using guns for self-defense.  An added bonus is that the lecturer’s face was blocked out…

Gunfighter's Guide to Ballistics

Field Strip and Review of Springfield XD Sub Compact .40  – This is another typical gonzo-style gun review of a handgun.  I always enjoy these videos, particularly if I’m interested in the featured gun.  What’s piled up in the right side corner?  Looks like a few boxes of garbage.  Perhaps future episodes he’ll tidy that up a bit.  And I’m sure Coca-Cola appreciates the shining endorsement…

Sig 522 Review – Another gonzo-gun review.  I like the Sig rifles – a tad heavy and there are other guns out there to choose from, but I thought this guy handles his review nicely…

Shooting Clays Before Taking the Corvette 106 M.P.H.  – We all know there is nothing better than starting a Sunday morning off shooting clays, and then going out in the Corvette to top out at 106 M.P.H.  During the Corvette footage, I couldn’t help but wonder if that shotgun, or any other guns were in that car.  Were they obeying gun laws while shitting on the vehicle code?  Perhaps the arrest footage was purposely omitted.  I guess we’ll never know…

Ruger 10/22 POV Shooting at Backyard Targets  – This video didn’t set my world on fire, I only concluded it because, as a resident of Southern California, I always dream of being able to shoot in my backyard.  For 2 minutes 58 seconds, I lived vicariously through the eyes of this shooter…

Shooting the M&P 15-22  – Another where I enjoyed see a guy shooting from his backyard, with his house right there above his left shoulder…

Rock River Arms Coyote Rifle First Impressions – Not much to say on this one, just a nice little review of a cool little rifle…

Bump Firing My M4 – It was a slow news day…

AAC SPS Tactical Remington 700 308 .308 – I think the sound was down on my computer when I posted this one…if I had realized Bob Seeger was being played, I probably would have skipped this one.  Aside from music that makes me vomit a little in my mouth, I liked this video – and I did turn the sound up at the point the gun owner was talking…

Suppressed Sentry 22 Bolt Action Rifle – Another slow day.  I think I was more interested in what the guys in the other stalls were shooting than this guy.

Tactical Rifle Match 2.18.12 – Nothing terribly exciting about this one.  However, I really get into seeing shooters do their thing under time pressure.  Expect me to post a lot of these in the future…

Custom AR-15 Rifle – I liked everything about this video.

Saiga .223 Review – This is an okay video.  7 or so minutes of deadpan commentary.  Let us know if you watch this one all the way through…

The Art of the Precision Rifle – Muzzle Accessories

The Art of the Precision Rifle

The Art of the Precision Rifle – Bolt Actions

The Art of the Precision Rifle – Rifle Optics

The Art of the Precision Rifle – Semi-Automatics

The Art of the Precision Rifle – Support Equipment

For the above videos, they are all excellent.  I debated linking to them because it’s likely they are on YouTube in violation of copyrights.  But they are still there now, so enjoy them while it lasts…

SHOT 2012, New Ballista FN Sniper long-range rifle tested 987 yards 10” circle plate – I’m sure this was taken during ‘Media Day’, which I didn’t get to this year.

Practical Rifle VTAC Highsmith and 9 hole drills – You draw me right in when your video starts out with a “HEY GUN ENTHUSIASTS!”

Assault Rifles for Beginners – I’ll always link to videos that are apparently designed for newer shooters, even if there isn’t much going on in the video…

One Mile Shot – Just because…

Heidelberg Tactical Shoot 2.18.12 3 Gun – More shooting under pressure.  A win in my book.

Shooting a Sig Sauer 1911 – I’ve seen several of these guy’s videos.  Love their little range.  Still, I always wonder what the side of that shed looks like as far as damage from shooting…

Shooting the Akdal MKA 1919 12 Gauge Shotgun – I am a big shotgunner.  Enough said…

Shooting a Customized Saiga 12 Shotgun – More shotgunning…win.

Norinco SKS Paratrooper River Shoot Magazine Dump – He bought the gun in California – I don’t think he can bring it back…

Cleaning the GLOCK 19Glock Lady tweeted a request that I provide a how-to video on cleaning the GLOCK 19, so I did…

How to Clean a Rifle – Just a nice, basic video on basic cleaning…

National Geographic Snipers Inc. Part 1 – Just badass, as are the next two…

National Geographic Snipers Inc. Part 2

National Geographic Snipers Inc. Part 3

Marine Recon and Scout Snipers Train Marksmanship with Thai and Korean Special Forces – Love watching military doing their thing, particularly snipers…

An 8-Year-Old’s First Time Shooting with Dad – Kids learning to shoot with parents will always get a spot on the gun wire.

Girls Shooting Guns– Does anything have to be said?

Girls Shooting Guns

Vintage Mattel Winchester Rifle Commercial – I love these old gun ads.  Hope you all have been enjoying them, too…

Shooting the Barrett M82A1 50 BMG – This video rocks.

Interesting WWII Pictures – I love looking at everything WWII.  Amazing times…

Army Sniper at Outpost Mace in Nuristan, Afghanistan – Again, our snipers in action.  Quality video to boot…

Shooting the Benelli M4 – My favorite shotgun.  I may even post older videos of the Benelli M4 over time…

Rock River Elite Operator 2 – Nice little gun, nice video…

How to Reload 9mm Ammo – Great little informational.

Marx Electro Shot Shooting Gallery – Well, they didn’t have XBox back in 1972, so I’m sure this was exciting…

Mattel Fanner .50 and Cross-Draw Toy Holster – this is a great vintage gun toy video…

SHTF Gun Collection – enjoyable…I love watching these and hearing the rationale regarding certain firearm choices.

Concealed Carry Basics – The Pistol – Just like the SHTF video above, I always enjoy hearing why people choose certain guns and methods of carry…

Water Heater Destruction – watching people destroy garbage is always fun.

Woman Having a Good Time Shooting At Zombie Target – More women shooting.

Vintage Marx Ram Jet & Ram Scope Rifle Commercial – Great commercial from back in the day…

Only one this week that didn’t make it:

the gun wire

"Fat Girl Shooting Handgun"

Fat Girl Shooting Handgun – I’m sure this girl was flattered with the title of her exciting video…

Until next week…

Thanks for mentioning my video “Gunfighter’s Guide To Ballistics” on your blog. I am glad that you found it interesting, and would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

As far as blurring out my face…

Unfortunately I work in a political world. Many law enforcement officials would be reluctant to hire a trainer, that shared what they view as dangerous and priviledged information. Of course I think that is a load of crap — as do many of the officers I associate with. However there is a large majority of officers that believe that YOU as a private citizen should not have the right to own firearms. Personally I feel safer knowing that good citizens are armed…

I also blur out my face, because so many of my female viewers find me utterly attractive. I want them to concentrate on the content of the video — not my good looks.

Keep Your Powder Dry,

Bill Rankin
