I don’t think the school can justify interfering with their first amendment right to petition their classmates. In school speech is protected unless the school can demonstrate it poses a significant disruption to the school’s educational purpose or a high probability of such disruption. Whereas this was distributed during the lunch hour only, I see no way the school could claim it was significantly disruptive. If the student’s decided to take this to court, I think they have a strong claim.
