VIDEO: EMILY MILLER EDUCATES MSNBC AUDIENCE ON GUNS

I’m not too thrilled about this performance and her take on fully-automatic weapons.

When Joe asks “well don’t AR-15 use bigger bullets than hunting rifles?” Emily replies “no they use the same ammo.”

I say “NO, AR-15’s use SMALLER ammo than most hunting rifles. In most states an AR-15’s 223 Remington caliber is considered too small to hunt deer. In fact the more common calibers for hunting are significantly larger 30 caliber rounds such as the 30-06 and .308.

My 30-06 hunting rifle shoots a round with roughly three to four times (155gr – 220gr grounds) the mass of the standard 55gr AR-15 round.

>”Because they’ve been outlawed since 1934..”
I too disagree with the wonderful Emily on that. Tradition does not equal something is right.

She starts in on Mark’s straw-man logical fallacy trick question, and she has correct facts. She started at first to pin him down on his dishonesty, but he doubled-down on making it a lie and she went in another direction. But she could have used one of many better arguments such as:

1)
Bazookas or rather what’s used today, shoulder-fired missile systems, and add in battleships and nukes are not arms. They are munitions. Arms are what are assigned to individual soldiers.

2)
Machineguns…the current system (which she correctly described at one point) has a strict registration/background check for these as the Supreme Court mentioned in their 2008/2010 rulings.

Kudos to Ms Miller on many things in the video though. Such as the hunting rifle part where the guy seemed to have no clue to what he was talking about. Kudos on pointing out Obama’s lie, the lie of antigunners trying to trick the public.

Also big kudos to Ms Miller to even going into such a den of clueless and dishonorable people and also for Emily working to break the concepts down to simple pieces for their traditionally liberal audience.

Last…wow…Joe really is an idiot.

Don’t get me wrong – I think she’s fantastic. A little bit of polish on a few of her answers and she’s good to go. She’ll be a great advocate for us for years to come. And she gets a lot of screen time, which is good.

Now, remind me when MrColionNoir will be making the rounds on these types of shows…

thanks for this article.

the guy asking “why draw the line between semi-automatic and automatic” actually supported repealing the 1934 law by demonstrating that the infringement of automatic weapons is in fact arbitrary.

she missed a great opportunity when the other guy said he thought fewer kids would have been killed at newtown if the shooter only had pistols. the virginia tech shooter only had two pistols and killed 30+ people.

I, too, think Emily does a great job for us. But we need to shut down this “where do you draw the line, I want a bazooka” argument. I think the response could be something like 1) the weapon is operated by 1 person (the SMAW might be on the edge of this — I don’t have military experience so I can’t say) and 2) the actual projectile has to be targeted, so hand grenades, mines, etc would be out. That would allow automatic weapons, which I am fine with.
