At about 1:00 minute it’s mentioned that Starbucks is pro gun. I hear that a lot, and it’s not exactly true.
Starbucks is neutral on the gun debate. You can usually carry in their stores as long as you obey the laws of the state. They neither support or ban those carrying guns. They just want to sell coffee, and have law abiding customers.
I will give the corporation credit for treating gun owners better than a lot of other businesses.

As far as I know, open carry is still illegal in Texas. I just can’t get my pantyhose in a bunch because law enforcement officers are, well, enforcing the law.

Open carry of handguns is illegal but long guns are perfectly legal.

Open carry of HANDGUNS is illegal in Texas. The law on long guns is that as long as they are not carried in a threatening manner, they are perfectly legal. This does not look threatening to me, but such a distinction is highly subjective. What someone might consider normal others might consider threatening.

I reiterate my stance that open carry of any kind is a strictly political statement. It has NOTHING to do with self defense, or any of the other reasons I carry a firearm. If you want to open carry and poke the bull, don’t be surprised if you get the horns every once in awhile. I will take my 2nd Amendment with a little more tactical superiority by concealing my advantage.

Should have had a lawyer paid for and present at the time.

Also, u need to get the NRA involved on this one or your court date could set a bad precidence for all texans. You may have just destroyed open carry of long guns in Texas, exactly the opposite of what you were trying to. I just hope you get a pro gun judge.

This is one of the reasons why I’m apposed to open carry, CA did a total ban as a result of open carry at Starbucks and other places. I personally would much rather be just another face in the crowd, folks sitting next to me in Starbucks have no idea I carrying. It frightens people who in turn call the Police and then if one gets the wrong officer/deputy you end up eating a charge (even if what you were doing was legal), if you have other legal avenues other than open carry then in my opinion you should use them.

I think it is disingenuous to matter-of-factly say that openly carrying a weapon of any kind is done for no other reason than to make a political statement. There are plenty of reasons to openly carry a gun. Some believe it may prevent an attack BEFORE IT HAPPENS, rather than carrying concealed where you may or may not have an advantage AFTER IT HAPPENS. This is a difference of opinion and nothing else. I’ve opened and concealed carry and continue to do so depending on the situation. I have no interest in making a political statement.

That said, openly carrying long guns will always bring more controversy because it’s so out of the norm. I would never openly carry a long gun, but if it’s legal to do so in the area that you’re carrying, then the police have no right to actually arrest you for it. I understand that they have to investigate a call, and I also agree that if you openly carry, you need to be prepared for these kinds of situations. If you willingly make yourself stick out from the crowd, well, then things often get interesting.
