Watching this was a waste of time. This person has no clue. This country is in real trouble if this person represents anything except a very small minority. He has totally ignored the facts that where “good guys” have more guns, there is less crime and less violence. Where guns are “controled” like Chicago there is more violence. People like this person is the problem not the solution. Sandy hook would have never made national news if the principal of the school had been armed.

I’m as pro-2nd as they come, but I think our side should drop this “correlation is causation” argument, or at least, be ready to see it eviscerated by an intelligent and capable opponent.

It’s as plausible that areas with oppressive gun legislation got that way in a (misguided) attempt to solve their violent crime problem as it is that their violent crime problem is a result of their oppressive gun laws. Probably more so, actually.

Another foppish twit expounding ideas bigger than he is.

Thanks for your take on “reality”. Your “reality” is somewhat different from mine. I have look at the facts, looked at both sides of the civilian disarmament argument, legal aspects and have made a considered decision as to how I will protect myself. Note I don’t have a personal attachment to any inanimate object other than I take care of them from a maintenance standpoint and know how to use them.

You have a PhD and I guess I should be impressed but I’m not and you pretty much lost me after the “they don’t look at the facts” statement. I suggest you work on your presentation-get your facts together and work on not coming across as a condescending, pompous out-of touch academic. You might gather a greater audience as well as credibility.

It is clear the Mr. Moran has developed an emotional antipathy to guns that clouds his judgement and his analysis of the facts. He just “knows” that it is more dangerous to have guns than not to have them, ignoring the facts. He just “knows” that guns are of no use in preventing tyrannical governments, ignoring the facts of democide in the 20th century.

It is amazing the amount of projection that he does.

MORON is more like it…

Who is this guy? Why is he some one we are supposed to listen to? Has to be someone in education who else wears a bow tie? Getting a little senile are we?

Patrick February 21, 2013 at 2:37 pm

I have degrees in Criminology and Criminal Justice. This guy makes a very real point. Data does not matter. In reality, people don’t care one way or the other, it’s all about what they feel and what their opinion is. Facts be damned. But, at the end of the day, “they” are the guys that are pro-gun control, not this twit’s idea’s that those that are Pro 2A are the issue.

There is no point in trying to convince people anymore. They don’t listen to reason and they don’t care. It’s about agenda. All we can do is educate everyone on the wording and the intent of the 2nd Amendment and educate as many as possible on what the Federalist Papers say.

This battle is no longer about using statistics to prove a point. It’s about shoving the 2nd Amendment down the throats of Pro-Gun Control Advocates at the muzzle of the proverbial assault rifle.

There was an effort a few years back to take someone to the range with you, and educate them in firearms use and safe handling. We definitely need more of that. The more exposure non-shooters have to firearms in a non-threatening environment, the more reasonable they become.

I enjoyed the little twinkle in his eye at the thought of gun owners facing down drones and tanks. He obviously has put his complete faith in the Federal Government and is little more than an academic mouth piece for the present administration. I wonder how deep those feeling went during the eight years of Bush Jr.

Max February 21, 2013 at 7:53 pm

Dr. Moran builds a strawman argument when injecting “drones and tanks” into his “reasoning”. He treats them as if they are the natural follow on for law abiding gun owners. That position is baseless and preposterous. He also makes general statistical statements about guns not really saving lives without any evidence. His comparison to smoking is also flawed. Guns are not akin to cigarettes in this vane. Guns are a self defense tool protected by the Constitution. Cigarettes are a legal drug that is already massively regulated.
His whole premis smacks of thought control and a “I know better than you” attitude. “You need to change your mind” “you are the problem”.
