I’m a native NYer ( 42 years)

I have two comments which may seem at odds but bear with me.

1. I appreciate that you tried to get an answer so you would not be breaking any laws. It seems you got frustrated having to speak with so many officers but at least you stuck with it. I would imagine they do not get those calls often.

2. It does not surprise me that they could not tell you what to bring. Is it illegal to record phone conversations without announcing it first? I think so… but either way a LEO is not going to give you permission to bring any “weapon” in. What if you did happen to need to use it? Would you then turn and say ‘But Officer Soandso said this was fine?’

I will look for your part 2. But I do hope you and your family enjoyed NYC without any incidents. It is a great way to teach children history to actually bring them to locations such as NY.

This is a share of a YouTube video. The original videographer is probably not paying attention here. You’d be better off going to the YouTube video itself and commenting.
BTW, New York and Florida are both technically “one-party” states. Meaning that only one party is required to consent to recording(if one party is doing so the other party has a legal right to do so also). If, at any point, the NYPD phone system mentions that calls may be recorded, that is the “one party” consent.
